User Agreement & Limited License

1. Your agreement with InkAndAnsi

This User Agreement and limited user license governs your use of InkAndAnsi accounts, community features, browser terminal and relay, and MUDSlingers. InkAndAnsi is the operator of these services; contact travis@inkandansi.com. The Privacy Statement explains our information practices, including our commitment never to sell personal information.

By checking the agreement box and submitting the associated action, you affirmatively accept this version of the agreement and acknowledge the Privacy Statement. You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter a contract. If you do not agree, do not create an account, connect through the relay, or start a battle. Public legal pages remain available without acceptance.

2. Limited permission to use the service

While you comply with this agreement, InkAndAnsi grants you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission to access its hosted features and use its browser client for lawful play and community participation. This is a license to use a service, not a transfer of ownership of software, artwork, heroes, game assets, trademarks, or other intellectual property.

You may not resell access, sublicense our service, or copy or exploit protected content beyond this permission or applicable law. Third-party and open-source components remain subject to their own licenses; this agreement does not remove rights those licenses or the law grant you.

3. Accounts and community conduct

Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and notify us of suspected unauthorized access. Use only accounts you are authorized to access. You are responsible for your own activity and must take reasonable care to prevent misuse; you are not automatically responsible for conduct outside your control.

Do not harass, threaten, impersonate, disclose another person’s private information without authority, post unlawful content, infringe intellectual property, distribute malware, or submit fraudulent ownership claims. Post only material you have the right to share. Reviews may be critical or negative; nothing here restricts lawful, honest reviews or reports to authorities.

You retain rights to your contributions. You grant InkAndAnsi a non-exclusive permission to host, store, reproduce, format, and display them only as needed to operate and moderate the features where you submit them. This permission does not authorize selling your personal information. It ends when the content is removed, except for necessary backups, legal records, or copies already incorporated into other users’ lawful conversations or game histories.

4. MUD and BBS relay terms

The relay is a connection tool for the published destinations offered through our game and board profiles. It is not a general proxy, VPN, anonymity service, security guarantee, or endorsement of an external operator. A listing or hero association does not imply a partnership, ownership, or permission to ignore that operator’s rules.

Only connect where you have permission. Follow the selected server’s account, age, conduct, automation, and access rules. Do not evade bans or access controls, scan or probe networks, redirect tickets to other hosts, flood servers, exploit connection limits, launch attacks, or use the relay for spam or unlawful activity. We may restrict destinations, rate-limit, disconnect sessions, or suspend relay access to protect the service or others.

Your browser-to-relay connection is encrypted, but the relay-to-server connection uses unencrypted Telnet/TCP. External login credentials, chat, and commands can be exposed along that connection and are received by the destination operator. Use a unique external-server password. Do not transmit financial details or other sensitive information. We do not promise that masking a password on screen secures its transmission.

External servers operate independently. Their operators control accounts, characters, content, moderation, charges, uptime, and data retention. You may encounter mature, offensive, or otherwise unwanted content. Check their rules before connecting; leave if you are uncomfortable. Resolve external-server purchases, bans, character loss, and account disputes with that operator.

Connections may fail, lag, or terminate without saving your external game state. Browser play does not guarantee that all terminal features or file-transfer protocols work. Do not rely on the relay for emergency, business-critical, or confidential communications.

5. MUDSlingers and virtual items

MUDSlingers heroes, levels, equipment, resources, rewards, and progression are virtual service features for entertainment. They are not money, an investment, a promise of financial value, or ownership of the underlying assets. They cannot be redeemed for cash from InkAndAnsi. We do not authorize account or virtual-item trading.

Hero unlocks use eligible tracked play time under the displayed game rules. Time from separate MUDs is not added together to meet a single-world unlock threshold. A hero’s originating world is recorded for that copy. Playing another eligible world does not give another copy or change the origin. Dismissal requires confirmation, removes that copy, and requires fresh qualifying play to earn it again under the current rules.

Arena opponents are Computer-controlled echoes, potentially based on another member’s hero, rather than live opponents controlling that battle. You permit your public hero name, build, and game allegiance to be used for this feature and included in another player’s battle history. Your hero auto-attacks, and commands can direct supported skills. Closing the page does not pause combat; a later request can advance it using elapsed time.

We save battle commands, full transcripts, snapshots, outcomes, rewards, and related hero history. See the Privacy Statement for visibility and retention. Do not put passwords or personal information in battle commands.

Unlocked hero collections, levels, stats, equipped items, enhancements, inventory and current appearances are displayed on public member profiles. Completed battle transcripts, results and battle-time builds are also available for others to inspect. Public inspection does not allow another visitor to change your heroes or control your battles.

Features are evolving. We may rebalance heroes, adjust reward rules, fix exploits, correct erroneous progress, retire content, or discontinue a feature. We will give reasonable notice of significant planned changes where practicable; urgent security and abuse fixes may be immediate. We do not guarantee particular rewards, rankings, perpetual availability, or recovery of lost virtual progress. Mandatory consumer rights still apply.

Do not manipulate tracking, forge sessions, exploit bugs, automate activity to misrepresent qualifying play, or interfere with other users. External games’ separate rules on automation also apply.

6. Availability and ending access

We may restrict registration, conduct maintenance, or suspend or end access for a material breach, abuse, security risk, or legal requirement. Where reasonably possible, we will explain the issue and provide a way to contact us about a mistake. Immediate restrictions may be necessary to protect users and infrastructure.

You may stop using the service at any time and request account closure at travis@inkandansi.com. Closure can end access to heroes and saved progress. Legal, privacy, intellectual-property, and dispute provisions continue only as needed for their purpose; closure does not cancel rights or obligations that already arose.

7. Service limitations and warranties

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, fitness for a particular purpose, or the accuracy or safety of third-party content. We cannot guarantee external server behavior, network security, data recovery, or game outcomes.

Nothing in this agreement excludes a warranty, remedy, duty, or consumer protection that cannot lawfully be excluded. Statements about service limitations do not excuse fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, or any liability the law does not allow us to limit.

8. Limits on liability

To the extent the law permits, InkAndAnsi will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of the service, such as lost profits or loss of external game progress. For claims arising from our service, our total liability is limited to the greater of US $100 or the amount you paid InkAndAnsi for the affected service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

These limits apply only where lawful. They do not limit liability for fraud, willful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury caused by negligence where liability cannot be limited, or any statutory right or other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or capped. You retain all non-waivable rights.

9. Questions and disputes

Please contact travis@inkandansi.com so we can try to resolve a problem. Contacting us first is encouraged, not a condition that prevents a legal claim, regulatory complaint, or urgent relief.

California law governs this agreement, except where mandatory laws of your location require otherwise. This agreement does not require arbitration, waive a jury trial or class action, impose a shortened claim deadline, or prevent you from using a court available under applicable law. If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions apply to the extent they can operate lawfully.

10. Updates and contact

We will publish revised terms with a new effective date and preserve prior versions. Material changes will be communicated through a prominent site notice or account email before taking effect where practicable. When acceptance of a new version is required, you will be asked to accept it before starting the affected action. Changes do not retroactively remove accrued rights or change our promise never to sell personal information.
