Vanguard
The oath at the threshold
The frontline protector. Strength and Constitution support high health and steadfast defense.
Before the arena had a name, the crossing roads needed people willing to hold a gate while others escaped. Vanguard traditions grew from that practical duty. Their schools teach that a stance is a promise: every opening you close gives someone, somewhere, another chance to act. Some inherit a military discipline; others learned protection through hard experience.
In single combat, that protective instinct turns inward. Vanguards build pressure without surrendering their footing, making an opponent pay for every attempt to break their guard. A champion’s reasons may differ—duty, ambition, loyalty—but the class asks the same question: when the decisive moment arrives, will you hold?

How to play a Vanguard
Weapon pressure with defensive staying power. Train the signature to combine a weapon hit with a temporary ward; the class spell can weaken the opponent. Watch for the heavy-attack warning and consider Guard or Bash.

Trained signature
Strike your opponent with your weapon. On a hit, gain a ward that halves incoming damage for 2 opponent responses.

Blast your opponent with magic; a failed Wisdom save reduces their damage by 30% and gives weapon attacks disadvantage for their next 2 turns.
Hero ability names vary. Train them in the loadout; the descriptions above reflect the current class mechanics.
